"Water is Light" – Power Generation from Hydropower

The German NGO Engineers Without Borders is developing an environmentally friendly technology for energy generation, which should improve the living conditions of the rural population in Cameroon in a sustainable way. The product development is particularly precise: The turbine is developed completely digitally in CAD and additionally the water flow around the turbine is calculated and simulated. This is where the strengths of Ansys' simulation solutions come into their own.

"The advantages of our development are the cost-efficient production and the adaptation of the manufacturing processes to the conditions in developing and emerging countries. This ensures almost one hundred per cent availability of parts and manufacturing processes on-site."

"Our turbine system must meet special requirements. For example, it must be able to be manufactured on-site. In order to meet these requirements, we have to work extremely precisely and carefully right from the development stage. This means that we not only develop the model on the computer in CAD but also simulate the water flow around the turbine in software, such as Ansys.“
